As part of a large-scale outreach initiative, up to 800 police personnel, including the Commissioner of Police, participated in the Bengal Police’s ‘Friends of the Police’ mission aimed at strengthening policing and youth participation in crime prevention.
As part of the drive, police teams spread across the city and visited educational institutions within their divisions, sub-divisions and police station boundaries.
Police officers gave PPT presentations, interacted with the students and encouraged them to join hands with the police to tackle crime, drug abuse, cybercrime and law and order issues.
The police are trying to attract two million students as part of the Friends of the Police team to build a safer and more informed city. More than 10,000 students took the pledge and signed up to help the police and be their “eyes and ears.”
“This is not just an awareness program but an initiative to strengthen police-public relations,” said Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh.
“I am very excited to talk to the police and help them fight crime. The police officer also told us how not to ride a bike without a license and use a safety helmet,” said the private college student.
