The Bengaluru North City Corporation conducted a clean-up drive on Sunday in which a total of 1,350 tonnes of garbage was removed within its jurisdiction.
The covered road stretches from Nagawara Junction to Hebbal Junction along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and extends to Allalasandra. The drive, which was held from 7 am to 4 pm, was led by Pommala Commissioner Sunil Kumar and reviewed by Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
About 40 illegal shop premises were also dismantled during the drive with instructions to prevent future encroachments.
During the past week, over 150 pourakarmiks, supported by 17 tractors and eight tippers and compactors, were deployed daily, resulting in the removal of approximately 1,200 tons of construction debris and other waste from the city’s main roads.
The cleanliness drive removed 150 tonnes of garbage in one of the wards in Dasarahalli, including 130 tonnes of construction waste, while volunteers from Youth for Parivarthana helped in cleaning black spots and beautifying the 80-metre long path, the commissioner said.
