Elections to the five corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) are expected to be held between June 14 and 24, state election commissioner GS Sangreshi said on Friday (May 8, 2026), ruling out any delay as the Supreme Court ordered that the consent report on the conduct of polls be submitted by June 30.
Addressing the media, Mr. Sangreshi said that the process of fixing the timetable for the polls had formally begun, with a meeting convened under the provisions of the GBA Act. He said the State Electoral Commission had communicated with the government and sought GBA’s views after invoking provisions in “column 10(4)” of the legislation.
Inputs were also taken from the Commissioners of the five Corporations, who serve as ex-officio members, before moving forward with the planning exercise. Mr. Sangreshi said that the Commission has completed all preparatory steps and is equipped to conduct the elections.
During the discussions, GBA officials cited several practical difficulties, including monsoon, ongoing examinations, enumeration process, Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls, limited availability of staff and possibility of natural disruptions, while demanding additional time.
Mr. Sangreshi clarified that the meeting was called solely for the purpose of working out the election schedule and not to consider extending the deadline. He said the Supreme Court’s directions left no room for delay, adding that the State Election Commission had no power to change the schedule.
“The final pardon has already been granted. The compliance report has to be submitted to the Supreme Court by June 30. We will be ready from our side,” he said.
The state government has been asked to suggest workable dates between June 14 and 24. Mr. Sangreshi said the Commission would go ahead and announce the final schedule within a week after considering the inputs received.
