A deeply emotional social media post by a retired Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) officer from Bengaluru has sparked widespread outrage.
In the post, the man, identified as former chief financial officer (CFO) of BPCL, K. Sivakumar, wrote about his painful experience of being forced to pay bribes at every stage while completing formalities after his daughter’s death.
According to his LinkedIn post, Sivakumar said he faced corruption and indifference after the death of his 34-year-old daughter Akshaya.
He said, “Recently my only child died at the age of 34. The amount of open bribe demanded by ambulance, police for FIR and postmortem, crematorium for issue of certificate, BBMP office for death certificate. I paid the inspector at Belandur police station who was so arrogant. Without empathy for the father who lost his only child, I am very sad, did I pay the money?”
The police are responding
After the post went viral and sparked widespread outrage, the Bengal Police in Whitefield quickly intervened.
“In connection with the incident mentioned in Sivakumar’s tweet, one PSI and one police constable of Bellandur police station have been immediately suspended. The police department will not tolerate any such indecent or inappropriate behavior under any circumstances,” the police said.
The police added: “The police will not tolerate any such indecent or inappropriate behavior under any circumstances.”
BJP reacts
Meanwhile, BJP state vice-president Malavika Avinash expressed condolences to K. Sivakumar and criticized the Congress rule in the state, as reported by NDTV.
She said, “First and foremost, my deepest condolences to Mr. K. Sivakumar. Not only has he endured immense personal grief over the loss of his young daughter, but he has also had to face considerable government apathy.”
The police will not tolerate such indecent or inappropriate behavior under any circumstances.
She added: “I think Urban Development Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shiv Kumar, must come and explain what happened. Why sir, why the apathy? Why the citizen of Bengaluru has to suffer the way he has to? And what’s worse, he deleted his post. Who ordered him to delete it or who is it please.”
