Three incidents of robberies and brawls were reported in Bengaluru on Friday night and Saturday, raising concerns about the safety of night commuters. This was despite Bengaluru City Police’s exercise of supremacy and extensive night-time checks during the night.
A flower seller was robbed of ₹30,000 at the busy Kalasipalya flower market in Bengaluru in the wee hours of Saturday. The victim, identified as Palani, kept the cash in his inner garment when he was surrounded by four unknown men at 5.30 am just as he was getting ready to start his work. The robbers allegedly distracted him, forcefully snatched ₹30,000 from his inner pocket and fled the scene before he could react. A case has been registered at Kalasipalya police station. Police are analyzing CCTV footage from the area to identify and track down the culprits.
This is not the first time that vegetable and flower sellers have been targeted by robber gangs around Kalasipalya. Several similar cases have already been reported.
In another incident, armed youths extorted money from passers-by and threatened to assault them for refusing to give money in Yeshwanthpura on Friday night. Panicked residents raised an alarm after which the accused fled the spot. Police are verifying CCTV footage to identify the accused.
The city also reported a road rage incident that turned violent that night. An employee of a private firm was attacked by three bike-borne men on Church Road near Shantinagar in what police said was a case of road rage in the wee hours of Saturday.
The incident took place between 4.30am and 5.30am when the trio riding a motorcycle allegedly asked the victim to give way. When he refused, an argument broke out. The men allegedly followed him, intercepted his two-wheeler and confronted him, questioning his response and the way he spoke to them. The verbal fights escalated and two of the men allegedly assaulted the victim. During the scuffle, the victim’s motorcycle skidded and he fell, after which the trio fled the scene. The entire incident was captured by CCTV cameras installed in the area.
Wilson Garden police have registered a case and are analyzing the CCTV footage to identify and trace the accused.
