Bengaluru: Assistant Drug Controller suspended in fake drug case

The Department of Health and Family Welfare on Monday suspended Omkareshwar, Assistant Drug Controller of the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA), Chamarajpet.

According to health department officials, Omkareshwar failed to check the counterfeit medicines at Krupa Healthcare located in Minerva circle in Chamarajpet jurisdiction. They also said that he did not take appropriate action against the distributor.

The Special Investigation Team of the Bengaluru Police and the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department recently arrested the owner of Krupa Healthcare, Veeresh Jain, for his alleged involvement in supplying fake medicines to hospitals, medical shops and clinics.

Investigators said Jain supplied fake cancer drugs, life-saving drugs and ICU injections to more than 90 hospitals and clinics in the city at a 50% discount.
