
Sadashivanagar police are on the lookout for an autorickshaw driver who allegedly drove away with a traffic constable still in the vehicle after he was stopped for causing an accident on a one-way stretch near 10th Cross on Thursday evening.
Traffic constable Radhakrishna, who was deployed at the Mehkri Circle junction, noticed that the autorickshaw was going in the wrong direction and hit the scooter. He stopped the vehicle, got in and ordered the driver to go to the police station.
However, instead of complying, the driver is said to hastily and carelessly sped towards Hebbal. Radhakrishna shouted at him to stop and in the commotion his radio fell out of his hand and got damaged. The driver continued driving till Ganganagar where he finally abandoned the vehicle and fled.
Meanwhile, ASI Muniraju and Naveen Kumar, who reached the spot after being tipped off, inspected the vehicle and found a dagger hidden under the driver’s seat. The autorickshaw was brought to the police station and based on the constable’s complaint, the Sadashivanagar police registered a case under sections 132, 281 and 324 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against the driver.
Police officer threatened by car driver
In another incident, police constable Madesha KM, posted at Palace Guttahalli bus stand, was allegedly abused and threatened by an autorickshaw driver after he advised the driver to keep to the lane and slow down.
The driver, who was allegedly transporting the patient, was speeding rashly and negligently. When Madesha asked him to drive carefully as the passenger looked scared, the driver allegedly cursed him and threatened him with dire consequences. An FIR has been registered and police are trying to trace the accused using the registration number of the autorickshaw.
