Bengaluru accounts for more than 30% of all pet travel on Akasa Air’s network, with more than 3,700 pet travel originating from the city since the airline introduced pet travel on its flights on 1 November 2022.

The airline said pet travel from Bengaluru grew by 53%, from 856 trips in FY24 to 1,310 trips in FY26.

He added that five of Akasa Air’s top 10 pet parents are from Bengaluru.

Bengaluru-Delhi, Bengaluru-Kolkata and Bengaluru-Guwahati are among the most popular pet travel sectors, consistently ranked among the top five pet travel routes in the last three financial years and accounting for more than 55% of pet flights from Bengaluru.

“Pet parents from Bengaluru are now traveling with their pets to 16 destinations, up from 10 at launch. Apart from cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Guwahati and Ahmedabad, pet travel is also growing to destinations like Bhubaneswar, Pune, Lucknow, Kochi, Varanasi, Darbhanga and Calicut,” the airline said.

He added that as pet ownership continues to grow, pet parents are increasingly choosing to include their furry companions in leisure, family and long-distance travel.

“Travel patterns in Bengaluru reflect this shift, with demand moving beyond traditional metro routes to a broader mix of leisure and regional destinations,” it said.

Akasa Air has transported more than 13,500 pets across its network since its launch in 2022. The airline allows customers to travel with their cats and dogs on domestic flights across 28 cities, either in the cabin or as cargo, depending on their weight.
