A four-year-old girl who was sleeping next to her grandmother under a mosquito net in a railway shed in Tarakeshwar near Kolkata, West Bengal, was abducted on the night of November 7 and sexually abused, police said, according to NDTV. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has attacked the Trinamool Congress (TMC)-led Mamata Banerjee government, alleging that the girl was raped and that the police did not file a First Information Report (FIR) in the case.
The incident reportedly took place at 4 am. The victim, who belongs to the Banjara community, was living on the street along with his family after their houses were demolished. “Where are we going? We have no homes,” she lamented.
The family believes an attacker cut the net and kidnapped her. The minor’s grandmother informed NDTV, “I didn’t even realize when she was kidnapped. I don’t know who the people were who took her away. They cut the mosquito net and took her away. They found her naked.”
The child was reportedly found the following afternoon near a high drain near the Tarakéšvar railway, lying in a pool of blood. The victim, who is in critical condition, is being treated at Tarakeswar Gramin Hospital. The FIR was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO).
Suvendu Adhikari, leader of opposition in Bengal, took to X and said, “4-year-old girl raped in Tarkeshwar. Family rushes to police station but FIR not registered! Taken to hospital – referred to Chandannagar. Tarkeshwar police is busy burying crime. This is True face of Mamata Banerjeed’s child’s life, but all children’s regime is free.
