Bengal Budget 2026: One lakh jobs, 20% hike in DA, ₹ 36,000 Cr for Annapurna Yojana among key developments | Today’s news
West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta presented the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s first full budget in the state assembly on 22 June.
“The mission of our government is to restore the glory of the state, to build Viksit Bengal as a part Viksite Bharat” said Dasgupta in the assembly as he allotted ₹36,000 crore for women financial assistance programme Annapurna Yojana.

In its interim budget at the beginning of this year, the previous one the TMC government had estimated expenses ₹4.06 lakh crores, of which ₹1.68 million crowns, or 41.4%, were earmarked for the social sector.
The outstanding debt of the state is estimated to be more than more ₹7.5 lakh crore, with debt toGDP ratio hovering around 38%, which is one of the highest values for large states. Interest payments alone make up almost ₹49,000 crore annually, which according to news agency PTI, is limiting the state’s fiscal space.

Here are the key moments from the West Bengal Budget 2026-27
-The government will accept one million people for different vacancies and reserve 33 percent of seats for female candidates. The government will fill 20,000 posts in the state police.
₹3000 per month for unemployed youth under the Bhorsa Karmasathi scheme.
-Salary of Asha employees under ICDS increased ₹5,000 per month and the salaries of civic volunteers and civil police increased ₹2000 per month.
-DA for government employees will increase by 20 percent from October.
-Girl students of state government and state aided schools will be awarded a scholarship of Rs ₹50,000.
-MLA local development funds, which will be obtained from the annual ₹70 million ₹1 crore.

– ₹550 crore will be allocated for free bus scheme for women. The government will also soon issue a ‘pink card’ to women.
