Belagavi police teams led by Police Commissioner Prakash Nikam raided more than 40 hotels and restaurants selling alcoholic beverages in and around the city on Saturday (October 10, 2026) evening.

The teams led by Mr. Nikam, Deputy Commissioner Narayan Baramani and Deputy Commissioner Santosh Satyanayak inspected clubs, pubs, prestigious hotels and dhabas, issued warnings and even shut down some establishments that were violating excise and other rules.

Managers of some establishments admitted to the violations and said they would not repeat them. In some places, police officers found minors consuming alcoholic beverages. Customers were warned and managers were told not to allow minors in the future.

Police closed down some clubs and pubs operating in breach of licensing regulations, fixed opening hours and safety standards.

Violation of speakers

In several dhabas, police found high-decibel loudspeakers and disc jockey music systems being used, violating sound pollution norms and disturbing neighbours. The systems were shut down, owners were asked not to restart them, and lawsuits were filed against them.

Mr Nikam told reporters in Belagavi on Sunday (October 11, 2026) that strict warnings have been issued to all businesses. “Maintaining public peace, order and safety in the city is our number one priority. No one is above the law and everyone must obey the rules, regulations and applicable court orders. There are no exemptions or exemptions for establishments that violate license conditions, allow access to minors and operate beyond the prescribed hours.”

“Once the investigation is over, our officers will file charges under various laws,” he said.
