Voting for seven posts of directors of the Belagavi Central Cooperative Bank (BDCC) will be held in Belagavi on Sunday. The other nine posts were elected unopposed.
The election drew widespread attention as it redrawn political lines and created wedges between leaders. Elections broke down party lines and became focused on individuals.
Congress leaders are fighting their own party leaders in some seats, BJP leaders have been pitted against each other in some seats and BJP leaders have joined hands with Congress leaders to form panels.
Getting seats on the board of the largest rural lender in the district became the prestige of the panels headed by Anna Saheb Jolle and the Jarkiholi brothers on one side and Ramesh Katti, Laxman Savadi and others on the other.
The Bank Election Return Office announced the election schedule on Friday. Voting will be held on the premises of BK Model High School, Belagavi from 9 am to 4 pm. A total of 676 voters who are members or delegates of primary agricultural cooperatives in the district will exercise their right to vote.
Seven stands will be set up in the center. Counting will follow and the results will be announced on the same day.
Returning Officer Shravan Nayak said 14 candidates contested in seven constituencies. Strict security measures were implemented by the city police and bank employees. Borase City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao reviewed the situation. CCTV cameras have been installed in the polling station.
All voters must bring their ID card. The use of mobile phones is prohibited in the polling station and voters are not allowed to take any items, including pens and pencils. The elected candidate can come with five supporters to receive the certificate, he said.
Only election staff, agents and press persons with official IDs are allowed entry, and all candidates should have only one representative for the voting and counting process.
Separate arrangements were made for everyone inside, including candidates, election officials and press workers, and facilities including drinking water and toilets were provided.
A total of 33 workers were deployed for election work. They have undergone the necessary training. He said a ban had been issued around the polling station.
To a query, he said that out of the 698 PACs in these seven seats, some had lost their franchise due to various reasons. If any of them restores their right by approaching the court, the RO will follow the orders.
