Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan sought a report on an incident where an official tried to stop illegal mining in Belagavi district.
On January 31, pictures and videos of senior geologist Bindan Patil throwing a stone at an earthmoving machine used for mining in a village in Belagavi were widely shared on social media.
In the video, which is said to be several months old, he asks who owns the site and which officer authorized the workers to mine the laterite blocks. When he asks a second time, they appoint a local leader. But when he asks them to call him to the place, they refuse.
Although he repeatedly asked the driver of the machine to stop, she refused, after which she took action.
