Mr. Basavanna is considered a loyalist of the former chief minister, who is also a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).

Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah, who was also present, urged the newly appointed president of the Mysuru Rural District Congress Committee to strengthen the party organization by taking all into confidence and upholding the values of democracy, secularism, equality and social justice.

Congratulating the new president of the party’s district unit, Mr. Yathindra said Mr. Basavanna was a local leader who had risen through the ranks.
