Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday revealed that Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will allot plots to losers for Shivaram Karanth Layout and sell flats built in Whitefield.
He said as many as 3,052 land owners had given their land for Shivaram Karanth Layout (SK Layout) and that there were several complications, including cases where multiple owners sold their properties to others.
“With the court’s permission, 18,000 plots are now allotted to the land owners. They can take possession of the plots from May 15. The software developed through the central e-governance system was used for the allotment,” he said.
“A special arrangement was made for owners who had 1, 2 or more acres of land. We promised to accommodate those who wanted one large plot, but only 7 people applied for it. For one acre of land, one plot of 9,583 square feet would be provided. This arrangement facilitates the construction of high-rise buildings,” he explained.

Mr. Shivakumar announced that about 1,900 new flats have been built in Whitefield. “A 760 sq ft 1 BHK flat is being offered at ₹ 6,686 per sq ft. Applications will be accepted from May 15. A 1,733 sq ft 3 BHK flat is being offered at ₹ 8,309 per sq ft, totaling ₹ 1,444
Further, talking about the infrastructure projects, he said that traffic congestion also exists in Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai. “We have taken some pressure off Hebbal and are continuing to streamline further,” he said.
“Work will start soon on the construction of a short tunnel connecting Hebbal Junction with the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS). A three-lane dug-out tunnel with a total of six lanes will be constructed. The tunnel will be 2.2 km long. This project has been awarded to Rutvik Tunnels and has to be completed within 18 months,” he said.
A 1.7 km long four-lane corridor will also be built near Mekhri Circle. The groundbreaking ceremony for both projects will be held by the end of this month, he noted.
He further reiterated projects like Bengaluru Business Corridor Phase 1, for which 80% land acquisition has already been completed, and opening of the 10.77 km Major Arterial (MAR) passing through Nadaprabhu Kempegowda area. Built at a cost of ₹ 631 crore, the MAR will be inaugurated in the next 15 days, he said.
On the occasion of Kempegowda Jayanti and BDA completing 50 years, about 15 lakh saplings will be planted in Bengaluru under a program called ‘Green Bengaluru’, according to Mr. Shivakumar. The event will take place on June 27. He further said that about 150 programs are planned and all the announcements will follow in the next 15 days.
The announcements coincide with the possibility that the city could hold a long-running civic election this year. While the Karnataka State Election Commission had earlier said that the Bengaluru civic polls would be held between June 14 and 24, it recently filed a petition in the Supreme Court for an extension to September 30 to conduct the polls at the request of state government officials.
