BCCI secretary asks state associations to support differently-abled cricketers
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia asked state cricket associations to take concrete steps to promote differently-abled cricket and urged them to provide greater opportunities, assistance and encouragement to players to develop the game across the country.
In a letter dated October 26 to all member associations, a copy of which is in PTI’s possession, Saikia called for measures to ensure the “welfare, development and betterment” of differently-abled cricketers within their respective jurisdictions.
The announcement follows a meeting at the Board’s 95th Annual General Meeting in Mumbai on September 18, where the need to support differently-abled cricketers was discussed and agreed upon.
“Member associations are requested to take meaningful initiatives to promote the participation of differently abled cricketers and provide them with proper encouragement, assistance and opportunities to grow in the game,” Saikia wrote.
He said the collaboration of state associations will strengthen the spirit of inclusiveness and further develop cricket for differently-abled players across the country.
Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI) Secretary Ravi Kant Chauhan welcomed the BCCI’s initiative and thanked the board for recognizing the need to create greater opportunities for differently-abled cricketers.
“We are deeply grateful to the BCCI for its support and encouragement to the cause of differently-abled cricket in India. This gesture is a significant step towards making cricket more inclusive and giving our players more recognition and opportunities to showcase their talent,” Chauhan said.
“Such support reinforces our commitment to nurture new talent, promote equal opportunities in sport and help our cricketers represent the nation with pride.
“We hope this association will pave the way for greater collaboration and a brighter future for multi-ability cricket in India,” he added.
BCCI’s call is aimed at encouraging member associations to take meaningful action to widen participation and strengthen support for differently-abled cricketers within their respective jurisdictions.
