Former Indian captain Sunil Gavascar urged fans and critics not to focus on players when they are preparing for other big tasks of the Asia Cup 2025, which starts on September 9.
Questions about whether India should skip the tournament with regard to the ongoing tension with Pakistan. The matches between the two nations were limited to ICC events or continental competitions such as the Asia Cup. After confirming that India will participate, despite the increased cross -border tension after a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, who claimed the lives of several tourists.
When we talked to India today, Gavascar stressed that players have no word in these decisions and simply adhere to directives from BCCi and the Indian government.
“If the government called, I do not understand how players can be criticized or commented because the players at the end of the day are closed to the BCCI and will be instructions from the Indian government. And so it depends on it,” Gavascar said.
“The players are helpless. They were chosen to play in the Asian Cup, and if the government says you have to play, then they will go out and play. If the government says no, then BCCI will act accordingly,” he added.
Regarding whether India could still step out of her conflict against Pakistan or even a tournament, Gavascar did not exclude it, which again stressed that the final decision lies in the government.
“As I said, it is entirely up to the Indian government to say that Bcci what to do“He noted.
Gavascar focused on his focus on cricket affairs and appreciated the group selected for the tournament and described it as one of the strongest India in recent years.
“It’s a wonderful team. It has a depth of launching, diversity in the left and right combinations and a great balance in bowling. It’s a fantastic team,” he concluded.
India will start a campaign against hosts United Arab Emirates September 10.
