The key decisions taken during the board’s fourth meeting in Dhaka on Saturday underline a double tale of long-term planning and immediate crisis management.Continuity of management and coaching increases signal stability in cricketIn a major move, BCB reaffirmed its leadership structure across formats. Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue as Bangladesh’s ODI captain until the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, while Litton Das will lead the T20I side until the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.To strengthen the leadership depth, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Saif Hassan have been appointed vice-captains for ODIs and T20Is. The decisions reflect the board’s intention to ensure continuity and clarity in leadership during a crucial phase of Bangladesh cricket.

A pioneer in Bangladesh cricket, Rafique is expected to play a key role in nurturing spin talent at all levels.Progress on the field has already been visible under Mehidy, with Bangladesh securing remarkable winning streaks against the West Indies in 2025 and Pakistan earlier this year.In addition to team matters, the BCB approved a new HR policy aimed at improving transparency and efficiency. It also launched two digital platforms, Player Data App and Cloud Server App, to improve performance analysis and data-driven decision making. The administrative crisis deepens with a wave of resignationsHowever, these advances come amid increasing instability within the plate. Three directors: Saniyan Taneem, Mehrab Alam and Faiazur Rahman resigned on Saturday, bringing the total number of departures from the current board to six.Their departure follows the recent resignation of Yasir Mohammed Faysal Ashique, which heightened fears of internal dissension. Earlier, Amzad Hussain and Ishtiaque Sadeeque also withdrew due to personal reasons.A commission of inquiry set up by the BCB is expected to submit its report by April 9, after which the government will decide on the future of the board. Speculation is mounting that the board could be disbanded, with an ad hoc committee being prepared as a contingency, possibly headed by a former Bangladesh captain.BCB seeks reset in relations with BCCIAmid the uncertainty, the BCB is also trying to restore strained relations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Relations between the two councils soured following Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the T20 World Cup due to security concerns. The situation worsened after Mustafizur Rahman’s participation in the IPL became the subject of controversy, which eventually led to Bangladesh being replaced by Scotland in the tournament. The fallout has extended to bilateral cricket, with Bangladesh’s women’s tour of India canceled and doubts lingering over India’s planned white-ball tour of Bangladesh in September. In an attempt to restore normalcy, the BCB approached the BCCI and proposed renewed commitments and exchange programs. Chairman of Cricket Operations Nazmul Abedin expressed optimism about the early response, calling it part of routine communication between cricket boards.
