Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) imported eight capuchin monkeys (Sapajus apella) from the Induna Primate and Parrot Park in South Africa as part of an animal exchange programme.
Eight capuchin monkeys, including four males and four females, arrived at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Sunday.
The capuchins were kept in a designated quarantine facility and will undergo a health check upon importation before being moved to the zoo grounds.
BBP said the importation was carried out in strict compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Prior approvals were obtained from the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi, along with No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the state’s chief wildlife conservator, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau.
She added that import permits were also obtained from the Directorate of Foreign Trade as per the guidelines prescribed by the Ministry of Animal Husbandry.
BBP said all animals were inspected and quarantined in South Africa in accordance with guidelines prescribed by the Department of Animal Husbandry and NoCs were obtained from Animal Quarantine Services prior to import.
