Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) removes concrete, sidewalk stones and cement blocks from the road base base. This is to prevent loss of life and tree infrastructure, which occurs during strong winds or rains.
In an Order Passed on June 19, Preeti Gehlot, Special Commissioner, Forest Department, BBMP, Said, “The Bases of the Trees Planted During BBMP’s Afronestation Drive by Blocked by Concrete, Tar, Or Pedestrian Paths Made of interlocked. Survival of the Trees Owing to Insufficient Air and Water Inflow.
She said that, according to the National Green Tribunal, concrete/tiles/blocks installed in a uniform tree circuit should be immediately removed. Furthermore, the space of one meter around the trees will be left without cement and leveled by the soil to facilitate the flow of water to the roots. On narrow roads, there should be at least one meter area around trees without concrete or should be left in a cuty state.
