
As part of the day without tobacco observed on May 31, the Municipal Police, along with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), launched a special drive and was mandatory for shops and commercial equipment to sell tobacco products.
“We launched strict enforcement and surprising controls and inspections in shops, bars and restaurants to check the illegal sale and consumption of tobacco products,” said Commissioner of the Municipal Police B. Dayananda.
The police were asked to monitor the sales of tobacco products by minors and in limited areas such as schools and universities, and took strict steps.
Awareness programs are held to inform traders and owner of commercial equipment about the sale of tobacco products together with a business license. Police officials and Marshal BBMPs were ordered to take strict measures to ensure strictly adherence to the rules.
From 2024 to April this year, the municipal police book up to 57,130 cases against COTPA infammers and gathered a fine of 80.08 GBP Lakh, he added.
