A clip from the Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Thunder clash went viral on Tuesday 30 December after some Scorchers players engaged in a bizarre pre-match episode.
Laurie Evans, Ashton Agar, Aaron Hardie and Mahli Beardman were on their way to the stadium in an Uber when the car broke down. The four players who were trapped were forced to get out and push the vehicle in an attempt to start it before finally jumping back in and continuing their journey.
The incident came to light during the broadcast when Laurie Evans later light-heartedly recounted the episode, prompting laughter from fans and commentators alike.
The unexpected hitch had little effect on the Scorchers’ performance. Batting first, they amassed an impressive 202 runs, fueled by a stunning unbeaten 99 from Ashton Turner. Turner was denied a century after last recognized batsman Ashton Agar was dismissed attempting a wild shot over midwicket.
The Scorchers then backed up their batting with dominant bowling as they bowled out the Thunder for 131 in 17.3 overs. The emphatic win moved Perth up to third in the Big Bash League table, behind only the Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes.
