Jerrssis Wadia, the Indian-origin all-rounder who plays for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League, wowed the crowds on Saturday, January 17. Bowling in the first over of the match, he picked up his left arm off the corkscrew for two wickets in the first two balls, sending back Melbourne Renegades’ Tim Seifert and JakeGu Frarkser-M.
Wadia, who hails from Mumbai, stunned the Renegades with two wickets in the first match and set the Strikers up for a perfect game. Wadia, bowling around the wicket to the right-handers, first rounded Seifert behind the stumps and then caught McGurk sharply on the very next ball.
This is not the first time that Wadia has found herself in the BBL limelight. In the last week of December, Wadia announced himself in style as he smashed 34 runs off just 16 balls in a high-pressure chase against the Brisbane Heat.
His innings was highlighted by a dramatic 15th over that yielded 24 runs as the left-hander hammered three consecutive sixes followed by a boundary off Jack Wildermuth that completely swung the momentum and electrified the crowd.
BBL: Who is Jerrssis Wadia?
Wadia was born on 3 December 2001 in India and played age group cricket for Baroda. His mother was the teacher of Hardika and Krunal Pandya, who remain close friends of the Wadia family.
Jerrssis was born into a family that loved cricket. His grandfather owned a school in India where he was introduced to the game. Jerrssis’ father, Neville, is a Bollywood actor who now runs a resort in Alibaug.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Jerrssis made the difficult decision to move to Australia. In time, Jerrssis caught the eye of Tim Paine in the T10 club game, where the left-hander smoked sixes at will. In the 2025–26 season, Wadia was added to the Adelaide Strikers squad as a local replacement for star batsman Alex Carey who was playing the Ashes series.
The left-hander made his BBL debut against the Melbourne Stars on 23 December, enduring a quiet outing, scoring just seven runs before being dismissed by Haris Rauf.
However, Wadia really came into his own against the Brisbane Heat. When he came in during a tense 180 chase, he injected urgency and aggression into the innings, showing clean hitting, composure and fearless intent. Despite his late onslaught, the Strikers fell just short and went down by seven runs in a thrilling finish.
Even though Adelaide’s result didn’t go their way, Wadia’s explosive batting put him firmly on the radar and marked him as one of the most exciting emerging talents in Australian domestic cricket.
