Bank loses ₹15,000 in daylight robbery at knifepoint in Kerala’s Thrissur

In a daring daylight robbery at the Potta Federal Bank branch on Friday, a helmeted thief escaped with ₹15 lakh after threatening bank employees with a knife point.

When the suspect arrived on a scooter, he broke the glass of the cash register with a chair. Within minutes, he grabbed the cash and fled in side lanes on his scooter.

The robbery happened at 2:15 p.m. while employees were on their lunch break, with only eight employees present at the time. The suspect reportedly locked two of the employees in the bathroom.

Witnesses said the suspect, aged around 35, demanded the keys from a female bank employee in Hindi. The incident which took place at the busy Potta junction near Chalakudy in broad daylight shocked everyone.

According to the police, it was a well-planned robbery. “The suspect did not spend more than two minutes inside and chose lunch time to strike when the bank was quieter. The police are taking the incident seriously and a special investigation team led by SP B. Krishnakumar has now been assigned to the case. We are leaving no stone unturned as we investigate all aspects of the incident, including possible security lapses at the bank,” said Thrissur Range DIG Hari Sankar.
