Bangladesh again introduced the controversial inscription “with the exception of Israel” on his passport, which citizens prohibits traveling to the Jewish state. This decision comes as a result of the growing public anger over Israeli attacks on the Gaza belt.
Directive issued by the Ministry of Home
On Sunday, officials revealed that the Ministry of the Interior issued a directive that ordered the passport and immigration departments to restore the phrase “This passport is valid for all countries except Israel” to official travel documents. Nilima Afroz, a representative of the Secretary of the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home, confirmed that the Directive was issued on April 7.
“The letter (Directive) was issued on April 7,” Afroze said, referring to the restoration of a controversial sentence in the passport.
Reversal of the decision 2021
This sentence was previously abandoned in 2021 under the rule of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. At that time, the officials explained that the removal was to align the passport with international standards. However, with the recent escalation of violence in Gaza and growing public outrage, the government decided to restore formulation.
Public protests in the dhace
This step is governed by extensive protests in Dhaka, where Israeli events in Gaza have been sentenced to the streets. Demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and chanted the slogans like “Free, Free Palestine”. The main assembly took place in the Suhrawardy Udyan, near the University of Dhace, where the demonstrators expressed their strong disagreement of Israeli military actions.
Some demonstrators burned the similar prominent personalities, including US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and accused them of supporting Israeli actions in Gaza.
Political and religious groups support rally
The rally was supported by several political and religious groups. Bangladeshi Nationalist Party of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia (BNP) and right -wing Islamic organizations expressed a demonstration of solidarity.
