Bangladesh vs West Indies, BAN vs WI, 1st Test, Live Score: Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat against West Indies in the first Test in Dhaka on Tuesday. Both teams have included three spinners and two fast bowlers in their playing XIs, with the all-rounders providing additional options.
Shanto said the pitch looked good for batting, but he expected to offer help to the spinners as the match progressed. Meanwhile, West Indies captain Roston Chase said his team is confident about their preparations and is aiming to win the two-match series 2-0.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said the team wanted to make the most of the conditions at the start of the match.
“We’ll bat first, it looks like a pretty good pitch and we’ll turn around later.
Shanto said Bangladesh discussed the need to build a bigger partnership after a promising start in the previous Test.
“I think we started very well, especially in the last Test. The opening partnership was good. But the thing is, we need to build big partnerships. We need to build a lot of partnerships. So that was the discussion we had before this Test match.”
Bangladesh play three spinners and two seamers with all-rounders in the side.
West Indies captain Roston Chase said his team will focus on available players rather than worry about the absence of key players such as Alzarri Joseph and Shai Hope.
“No, they’re good players, but we have to work with what we came in here with, the 15 guys we have. We trust all 15 guys, so we’ll just go with those guys.”
Chase also spoke about the team’s goal in the WTC standings and said West Indies wanted to make the most of the two-match series.
“Yeah, well, we know if we can be fifth or sixth in the team standings, that would be good for us. So that’s the goal for us, to come here and win this two-game series 2-0.”
