Najmul Hossain Shanto said Bangladesh will be looking for a fresh start as they look to take on Pakistan in the three-match ODI series. The Tigers recently missed out on the T20 World Cup after boycotting the tournament, they remain steadfast in their stance of not playing their matches on Indian soil due to security concerns.
While 20 teams participated in the World Cup, Bangladeshi cricketers played the three-team Odommo Cup. Shanto said Bangladesh will now focus on qualifying for the 2027 ODI World Cup by shutting out outside noise and being patient with the current group of players.

“It will definitely be a new beginning. However you see it, our goal is ultimately to reach the World Cup in 2027. If we can progress together as a team, it is possible. We have to shut out the outside noise. We also have to be patient with this group of players. We have to stick to our long-term goals. That would ensure our success.”
HOW BANGLADESH CAN QUALIFY FOR ODI WORLD CUP
The deadline for direct entry into the 14-team ODI World Cup is March 31, 2027, which is more than a year away. The challenge for Bangladesh, currently 10th in the points table, is to finish in the top eight and secure qualification.
South Africa and Zimbabwe are already guaranteed places as hosts, meaning the other two highest-ranked teams qualify if they remain in the top eight of the ICC rankings by the deadline.
South Africa are currently fifth, while Zimbabwe are 11th. This effectively puts Bangladesh ninth in the World Cup qualifying rankings, just outside the top eight and under pressure to improve their ranking before the deadline.
Bangladesh are set to play Pakistan in the first ODI on Wednesday, March 11 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
