Nigar Sultana Joty admitted that the main reason for their batting was the poor performance in Bangladesh 10-wicket defeat to Australia in the Women’s World Cup match at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. After opting to bat first, the Tigresses could only manage 198 for nine.
Rubya Haider Jhelik made a solid start with 44 while Sobhana Mostary added to the momentum with an unbeaten 60. However, their efforts proved futile as Australia chased down the target with 25.1 overs to spare.
Joty also lamented the absence of key bowlers Nahida Akter and Marufa Akter, who were replaced by Fariha Trisna and Nishita Akter Nishi.

“We started very well, one wicket down in the power-over. We struggled with the partnership (afterwards). We should have got more runs in these conditions. Not being consistent as the bat unit cost us, we were missing two bowlers (also),” Joty said at the post-match handover ceremony.
Joty also gave reasons why Jhelik took the gloves in Australia’s innings.
“I wanted to see Rubya go as a keeper, sometimes we try things. Bad day for the bowlers,” said Joty.
The Bangladesh captain said her side was much better than the performance they put up against Australia and stressed on learning from their mistakes before they face Sri Lanka in their next match on October 20 in Navi Mumbai.
“They are doing well. I think we are better than this. (Sri Lanka next) We have to learn from here, there are a lot of positives in the last two matches,” Joty added.
After the defeat to Australia, Bangladesh remained seventh in the points table. Since the win over Pakistan, the Tigresses have suffered four consecutive losses. Joty and Co. they now need to win both of their remaining matches to have any chance of advancing to the semi-finals.
