The former Indian Air Force pilot has considered to prohibit the replenishment of diesel over 10 years of age, and the petrol vehicles over 15 years of age now reviewed because the BJP government led by Rekha Gupt has asked for an air quality management (CAQM) to seize enforcement.
Ex-IF Pilot Sanjeev Kapoor raised concerns about selective intervention against passenger vehicles, while older transport methods continue to operate uncontrolled.
“We are still flying aircraft older than 40 years and many of our trains, buses, boats, ferries and commercial aircraft in everyday use are more than three decades old,” he wrote. “Why do they only store the restrictions on passenger vehicles?”
Kapoor also expressed concerns about the possible unintended effects of the ban. “For fuel, it is no longer available at petrol stations, it will only create a parallel ecosystem that is neither sustainable nor desirable. This is my view,” he added.
“Technological Challenges”
In the middle of public outrage, the Delhi government “suspended” its controversial order, which excludes fuel for the “End of Life” vehicles – referring to petrol cars over 15 years and diesel over 10 years.
The Minister of the Environment Manjinder Singh Sirsa told reporters that the implementation of such a fuel ban is difficult due to “technological challenges and complex systems”. He added that the authorities are working on the plan to entertain poorly maintained vehicles, rather than the penalty of owners who properly maintain their cars and motorcycles.
“We are trying to ensure that the vehicles are not prohibited according to their age, but rather on the basis of pollution caused by them,” Sirsa said. “
