A 28-year-old man killed his mother after she refused to give him money for more drinks at Tulasigeri in Bagalkot district on Thursday.
Venkat Girisagar slit the throat of his 60-year-old mother Shavakka after tying her hands and feet and stuffing her mouth with a cloth in their home.
Neighbors who noticed Shavakka’s absence after a few hours found the body. They called the police, who picked up the accused, who was drinking at a nearby bar.
The alcoholic was out of work and spent all the family money on his addiction. Shavakka worked as a domestic helper in the city.
On Thursday night he came home drunk and demanded more money from his mother for more drinks. But when Shavakka said she had no money with her, he killed her, police said.
Shavakka’s husband died a few years ago. Her married daughter lives in a nearby village.
