A Badanaval Satyaghis consultation meeting was organized on February 14 at the Indian Institute of Educational Theater (IIET) on the premises of Hardwicke School near RTO Circle, Mysuru to advance the vision of building the country’s economy on a solid foundation of rural economy.

The demand raised during the historic Badanaval Satyagraha held in 2015 was met to a limited extent. “Karnataka government has decided to develop a khadi center at Gandhi Ashram and comprehensively strengthen the production, sale and training activities of khadi and village industries at the centre. This is a welcome development,” said GS Jayadev, organizer of Badanaval Satayagraha.

However, the main demand of satyagraha — that the country’s economy should be built on a solid foundation of rural economy — remains unfulfilled, he said.

“In fact, in the last decade, the rural economy has seen a serious decline. Hence, the view is growing that satyagraha needs to be revived,” he said, before inviting satyagrahis to join a meeting aimed at developing the Badanavalu Khadi Center campus in Mysuru district into a vibrant Gandhian ashram and sustainable rural livelihood cluster.

The consultation meeting will be held on February 14 at 4 pm in the IET premises.
