Back to School: Mysuru welcomes students with festive spirit

Government and aided schools across Mysuru district reopened on Monday, June 1 for the academic year 2026-2027, with students receiving a warm welcome from teachers, officials and local representatives. To mark the start of the new academic year and improve enrollment in public schools, school reopening festivals, enrollment collections, awareness rallies and parent meetings were organized.
TS Srivatsa, Krishnaraja MLA inaugurated the ‘School Reopening Festival’ and ‘Mega Parents Meet’ at taluk level organized by the offices of Block Education Officer and Block Resource Coordinator for Mysuru South Education Zone at Karnataka Public School (KPS) Kuvempunagar here.
Mr. Srivatsa said that government schools are becoming strong competitors to private institutions due to improvement in quality of education and infrastructure. “The long-standing notion that public schools are inferior is fast disappearing,” he said.
Regarding the progress made by the government schools, he noted that only four students scored 620 marks in the 2023 SSLC examination, but the number is steadily increasing, reflecting the growing emphasis on quality education.
He said government schools now boast of new buildings, sanitation facilities and conducive learning environment. Through private partnerships, STEM labs have also been established at several schools to provide students with hands-on, hands-on learning experiences.
The MLA praised the teachers for their dedication and said they play an invaluable role in shaping the future of children.
Headmasters, teachers, members of the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC), parents and the public participated in the school reopening program which was held under the theme ‘Better Learning, Brighter Future’.
As part of the programme, students held awareness rallies with placards bearing messages such as “Join Government Schools” and “Education is the foundation of life” to encourage greater enrollment in government schools.
A warm welcome
As part of the school reopening programme, the Mysuru district administration gave a warm welcome to students at Halladakeri Government Higher Primary School in Nanjangud on Monday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Aishwarya welcomed the children with roses and sweets to mark the beginning of the new academic year. She also drew attention to the drive aimed at increasing the number of admissions to government schools and wished success to the initiative.
During the program, students received government-sponsored benefits, including free textbooks and uniforms.
Taluk Education Officer M. Mahesh, Block Resource Officer Basavaraju and others participated in the programme.
Ms. Aishwarya also visited the free Mobile Computer Bus initiative on the occasion and appreciated the efforts made to provide learning opportunities using technology for children.
