Babri Masjid Demolition: The Rajasthan government has recalled a controversial order asking schools in the state to observe December 6 – the date the Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992 – as ‘Shaurya Diwas’ citing “unavoidable circumstances”, PTI reported.
The order was lifted by the government on November 30 after criticism from the opposition and Muslim groups, she added. The clarification read: “Due to unavoidable circumstances, the order has been withdrawn.
The head of the board says no such order has been issued
However, Board of Secondary Education director Sitaram Jat told PTI that no such instructions have been given to the schools. “No such instructions have been issued to schools. I don’t know how it is being circulated,” he said.
In an order circulated late on Saturday, the directorate of secondary education in Bikaner directed government and private schools to organize cultural programs aimed at “enhancing patriotism” among students.
A cultural celebration?
The guidelines proposed essay competitions on topics such as India’s cultural pride and the Ram Mandir movement, traditions of valor and sacrifice, and the role of youth in nation building.
Schools have been asked to organize painting competitions on the Ayodhya Ram Mandir and Indian warriors and to display exhibitions at the Ram Temple.
The order began to attract sharp criticism from the Congress and Muslim groups.
