The Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B-Sile), a recently created special purpose vehicle, is ready to call global offers for the North-South tunnel between Hebbal and Silk Board. This is governed by the approval of the construction, own, operation and transfer model (boot) with 40% funding of the viability gap (VGF) from the government, which is to be accepted for the construction of tunnel roads in the city of June.
If everything goes according to plan, the double tunnel roads will be opened to the public by 2029-30 and it is estimated that the tolls on these roads cost 19/km and will be paid by companies that invest these roads for the next 30 years.
This hallway will be 16.74 km long and is expected to cost £ 17,780. VGF for this corridor will be CRORE 9 303 GBP. The State Cabinet has already agreed that the state will be as a guarantor of a loan of 19,000 GBP per VGF for North-South and the east-west tunnel road. B-Smile speaks to credit agencies, including Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), an Indian enterprise that also finances the peripheral circular road (PRR).
Work to be divided into two packages
Since the past experience with the estimate of the PRR costs 27,000 GBP Crore, which does not attract any candidates in more global offers, B-Sile decided to divide the twin twin twin twin corridor into two packages around 8.4 km-north of Hebbal on Race Course and South Package from Silk Road to Silk Board.
Two companies will offer and start building these tunnels at two ends simultaneously, which will also ensure that the tunnels are ready faster. The offer, which is likely to be called soon after the government’s approval, will remedy the project for 50 months (four years of two months), said BS Prahlad, technical director, B-Sile.
Tolls estimated at £ 19/km
The commuters will apply tolls in two phases and the collection of tolls will be completely automated via software to recognize numeric plates, said Mr. Prahlad. “According to current estimates, the toll will be around 19 ₹ per km. Since it will be collected after five years, it is not high and factoring in inflation, it will be comparable to other tolls at this date,” he argued.
Twins
The project includes the construction of two unintegrated tunnels for each direction of operation side by side, each three stripes wide. This basically means that the total length of the country to be a tunnel for the North-South corridor is 33.48 km. Sources said at least eight machines for boring tunnels will be deployed at the same time to speed up work. Each machine is able to tunnel 2 km a year, the sources said.
