Azmatullah was born in the Nurgal district in Kunar province and grew up in the region where there were rare opportunities and dreams were limited. His cricket journey began on these streets, seemingly destined to rise from uncertainty.
His introduction to the cricket came at the age of 14, evoked by the moment of family pride in 2014. When he sat and watched Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh in the Asian Cup, his father asked if he wanted to chase the game. The Azmatullah reaction was immediate. He loved cricket for years and chased his skills in street matches with his older brothers. That day, his father’s approval put him on a journey that would transform his raw talent into potential.

Azmatullah began to impress local selectors with its ability to clean the ball and mix with the goal. Until 2017, he made his list of “A” debut for the GHAZI regional tournament Amanullah Khan in Ghazi Amanullah Khan and showed his potential like Allrounder. His performance earned him a place in the Afghanistan team of the U-19 World Cup in 2018, where he broke eight six in four games to define his career to define his career.
The international breakthrough of Azmatullah came in January 2021 in Odi against Ireland. Azmatullah’s Breakout year in 2023, which was initially overshadowed by veterans like Gulbadin Naib, saw him providing an Afghan bowling attack with a strong seam.
It was the ODI World Cup, which actually announced his arrival. In India, Azmatullah appeared as a standout artist in Afghanistan, scoring 353 runs on average 70.6 and raised seven goals in nine matches.
“All I ever wanted was to play one game for Afghanistan team. But as soon as I joined side, he felt we had to give people our country happy. It’s always on my mind when I take a field to Afghanistan,” Azmatulh Toi said.
With the ball, his swing and misleading pace, they worried the highest bats and earned praise from Sachin Tendulkar, who compared his wrist position to the position of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Poe Kumar.
“Our players are very passionate. We don’t say we’re a big team. We say we can be better than our opponents on that day. You can see our Junoon (passion) on the pitch,” Azmatulh said.
In January 2024, facing Sri Lanka in Odi, Azmatullah entered in 19/3 and chased the daunting 383. With the result of reading 55/5, hope seemed lost. Yet, along with Mohammad Nabi, he created a stunning 242-running partnership and finished undefeated to 149 out of 115 balls. Although Afghanistan did not achieve, his shifts were evidence of his resistance.
The performance brought him a lucrative contract for IPL 2024 with Gujarat Titans and later an agreement on RS 2.4 Crore with Pandjab Kings for IPL 2025.
Azmatullah’s heroism continued his 2024 T20 World Cup, where his contributions with BAT and Ball helped Afghanistan to achieve their first semifinals.
“No matter what the situation is, we just try to give the best and have a great belief in our skills. Only the winning mentality helps at the international level,” said a 25 -year -old man.
The Azmatullah form reached new heights in the ICC Champions trophy in 2025. It scored 41 out of 31 balls against England and took 5/58 to ensure an unforgettable victory. Against Australia, he broke 63-míč 67, although the rain denied the result. The coronation moment was named ICC Men’s Odi Cricter of the Year for 2024.
Outside the field of his calm behavior, his teammates are inspired.
“I don’t feel like I’m a big star. Rashid Khan is our biggest star, also Mohammad Nabi. I have good gluing with both. I learn a lot from them and want to take an Afghan cricket to even greater heights.
