GUWAHATI Ayushman Bharat services in Assam’s private hospitals have not been suspended, the National Health Authority said on Thursday (November 27, 2025).
Association doctors in the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on November 25 alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government has weakened health services in the rural areas of the state.
Responding to the allegations, the National Health Authority said the state government had curtailed 263 super-specialty procedures at empaneled private hospitals across Assam “to ensure rational and optimal utilization of Ayushman Bharat resources and to encourage greater provision of treatment through public hospitals”.
It clarified that Ayushman Bharat services in private hospitals are working.
The authority further said that the Government of Assam issued a notification on December 16, 2024 to strengthen the public healthcare ecosystem by providing services through government hospitals. The notice became effective on December 31, 2024.
“Furthermore, the state has deployed specialized Arogya Mitras in public hospitals to further strengthen service delivery and ensure that beneficiaries receive high-quality health support,” the National Health Authority said in a statement.
Members of the Congress Health Cell also said that 122 doctors and about 22,000 health sector employees under the National Health Mission are set to lose their jobs by November 30.
