Ayodhya Verdict | The appendix cites Tulsidas, Ain-i-Akbari as proof of the place of birth
Ain-i-Akbari A 16th-century document dealing with the administration of Mughal Emperor Akbar mentions the time of Lord Ram’s birth in Treta Yuga in the city of Ayodhya, the Supreme Court said.
Similarly, the Bala Kanda of Gosvami Tulasidasa not only refers to the birth of Lord Rama, but “points to the place where he will assume human form, which is clearly shown in the words he had ke grha (in their house Dasaratha and Kausalya)”.
These are excerpts from an addendum written by one of the five judges of the Ayodhya bench. The 116-page appendix confirms the belief that Lord Ram was born at the exact spot under the central dome of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.
The addendum concludes that “the faith and belief of the Hindus before and after the construction of the mosque has always been that the Janmaasthan of Lord Ram is the place where the Babri Mosque was built”.
Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said the amendment was written by one of the five judges.
The addendum says that Hindu beliefs about the exact birthplace of Lord Ram are based on religious documents, scriptures and books, including the Valmiki Ramayana and the Skanda Purana. There is no harm in trusting these works. Such a belief is not “unreasonable.” The document said travelogues, books etc. about Ayodhya were admissible as evidence.
