Thousands of users worldwide have reported that their popular gaming platforms, including ARC Raiders, Steam, Fortnite and the Epic Games Store, stopped mid-game due to an alleged Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage on Christmas Day.
Users around the world, especially in the United States, have reported difficulty accessing multiple online services. According to Downdetector, more than 4,000 users reported problems around 9:30 PM EST on Wednesday.
However, AWS denied claims that its servers experienced any downtime.
Here’s how netizens reacted:
Netizens, who were just relaxing for the holiday season this morning, were upset about the outage, saying they shouldn’t rely on “servers that are attacked every 2 weeks”.
“Really sick of aws crashing and taking everything down with it, you all can’t rely on the same servers being hacked like every 2 weeks. Please,” the user said.
“Ah. AWS down again! I have to demo it! What is Jeff Bezos doing with our subscriptions,” asked an angry user.
One player asked “I’m not playing fortnite, the aws servers are down, are you all going to compensate players who can’t open gifts?”
Responding to a post about the Epic Online Services outage, a player said: “It’s ridiculous that we’re dead in the water because Epic is down. We launch via Steam & play on AWS – Epic shouldn’t be a bottleneck just because a game uses UE. When one 3rd party ‘bridge’ service can permanently block the entire player base. We need a system with bugs.”
