Thirteen self-help federations (DWCRA) were felicitated on the concluding day of the two-day national conference of federations of self-help groups and FPOs organized by Hyderabad-based voluntary organization APMAS on Friday.
Telangana State Planning Board Vice Chairman G. Chinna Reddy presented the prizes to the winners. This is the fifth year in a row that APMAS has given national awards, the voluntary organization said in a release.
Sai Krupa Mandal Federation of Kamalapur mandal of Hanamkonda district secured the championship at the national level. The federations from Jharkhand took the second and third places.
At the southern regional level, Mandal Federations from Nizamabad district secured the first and second positions. In addition, awards were given to federations selected as the best at various regional levels.
The conference held at the Institute of Human Resources Development Dr. Marri Channa Reddy was attended by more than 200 SHG Federation (DWCRA) leaders, bankers, development sector experts and representatives of concerned organizations from 17 states.
Mr. Chinna Reddy said that Telangana has around 60 million women in self-help groups and the number is expected to reach 1 million. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s vision is to make them crorepatis and the government is working in that direction.
Chairman of the governing body K. Madhava Rao expressed concern that although family incomes have increased due to SHGs and federations, women’s earnings are often depleted due to men’s drinking. He said it is painful to see that even 15-year-old children are addicted to alcohol and domestic violence remains an unsolved problem. He called on women’s groups and federations to fight against these social problems.
