On April 29, Bangladeshi actor Siddiqur Rahman Siddique stood on the fuel station in Bijoy Shoroni in Dhace and completed his car. Suddenly, a group of young people began to chase him – members of Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wings of the Bangladeshi nationalist party (BNP). Siddique fled almost five km in his car before being caught in the Baily Road area in the capital.
The group was ruthlessly defeated him, and in the viral video of the attack, Siddique is seen asking and calling in pain and fear – his clothes torn, a bruised face, and dignity broke. “Fascist supporter,” they shouted as they kicked and hit him. And yet the police stood and watched – quiet and indifferent.
The group then handed over Siddique to the police. The television actor was later laid on a seven-day custody by a court in Dhaka for attempting to kill a driver Rickshaw-Van during a mass rebellion led by a student last year, which eventually led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina after sixteen years in power. Although Siddique was not a bearer of Awami League, he gathered the nomination from the party to attack the election choice in 2023.
Shortly after the episode of Siddique, she came on Sunday the arrest of the popular Bangladesh actor Nusrat Faria at the airport in Dhaka. Later she was sent to prison by a court in Dhak in connection with an alleged attempt to murder. Faria, who portrayed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Biopic, was abroad during the mass uprising. Her arrest caused extensive criticism across the country. In the middle of the controversy, the actor was awarded a bail.
‘Ally of fascism’
Meanwhile, individuals are previously consistent with the Awami League – official men and mere sympathizers from different occupations – increasingly subject to such treatment. Incidents like these become more common. In many cases, perpetrators resort to conditions such as “fascist collaborator”, “ally of fascism” or “Awami League Enabler” to justify their attacks and blackmail money.
Shaful Alam Chowdhury Nadel, organizing the secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League, said to the Hindes: “Under the patronage of Yunus government, mass terror dissolves against leaders and workers at various levels of Awami League.
“Since Bangladesh is currently missing in Bangladesh, there is no opportunity to confront all these illegal activities of the Yunus government. Our leaders and activists are not arrested in courts,” he added.
During the crowd attacks on the rise, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) made a statement on Tuesday, which urged the parties to be conceived in order to abstain from the law. DMP also warned that no future attempt to create chaos by taking the law into its own hands will not be tolerated.
“If someone intentionally annoys someone without reason or attempts to serve personal interests by violating the law, the matter should be immediately reported to the National Emergency Service at 999 or the nearest police station”, the statement was read.
Political analysts, however, believe that such crowds would increase in the coming days, given the official ban on the temporary government led by Mohammad Yunus and the associated organizations under the Counterrorism Act on 12 May. This was followed by the registration of the party’s election commission in Bangladesh. The ban includes all forms of activities, including any kind of publication, media campaign, parade, meetings, gathering, conferences, etc., potentially gives attackers perceived justification for future attacks.
Mubasar Hasan, a political analyst and postdoToToTorate at the University of Oslo, said Hindu that the crowd attacks occur when the government lacks legitimacy. “People believe that everything they require will be met, and the government must take responsibility for it,” he said. “I believe that this ban could allow such attacks to feel justified in the coming days.
Islam, political analyst and head of Türkiy, Asia and Indo-Pacifik on Ankara Yildiri Beyapit University said, Hindu said that “any violence may occur because of their benefits.”
“Current attacks are harmful not only by members or associated companies Awami League, but also by ordinary citizens without political or criminal fellowship. A robust obligation on law and justice is necessary to ensure a stable and inclusive political future,” he added.
Not only activists and sympatheists of Awami League, but also people from enforcement of law. According to data from the Police Directorate, between 225 attacks on police staff for eight months from August 2024 to February 2025, there were 70 main attacks. The Society of Human Rights (HRSS) also stated that at least 119 people were killed and 74 injured in crowds’ attacks because the temporary government took over the 8th August office.
Current status of AWII League
After Sheikh Hasina was deposed, most of the best Awami League leadership fled the ground and many of them were hiding in neighboring India. Those who could not leave are either in prison or hiding. Sources said that at least 27 ministers, five former ministers ministers, three ministers and three advisors have been arrested since the fall of the government. In addition, there are currently 43 former deputies from Hasin’s administration behind bars. More than 300 cases against Sheikh Hasina were registered.
The Hindus spoke to several Awami League leaders who confirmed that despite the fact that they were abroad, they remain in constant communication with parties and activists in Bangladesh. They continue to lead members at local level and see them as a source of hope for a political return.
Although the government has banned all Awami League activities, the party leaders still occasionally go through the flashes of lightning. The League of Awami League, who resisted, organized the league leader in more areas of capital this week. At least 11 leaders and activists were arrested on Sunday afternoon when they tried to enter the party headquarters at Bangabandh Avenue in Dhace.
“We are still in contact with leaders and activists across the country. Political programs are held on a small scale. We hope to organize extensive protest against the interim government in the future. Since August 5, there has been extensive public dissatisfaction with this government. The organization, organizing an organization that deployed them in the organization that is in line with the enthusiastic government, AWAM.
Reactions after a ban
AFM Bahauddin NASIM, a common secretary of the party, called the Awami League activities and a government -dreamed drama. He said, “How can a handful of supporters even think about the ban of Awami League, the party that waged the war for independence? Awami League is a party to millions – it cannot be banned. Bangladesh residents refused to ban Awami League.” ”
Mr. Nadel said that: “The government led Yunus has banned Awami League to extend his government. The prohibition of Awami League is against the constitution and law of Bangladesh. The Yunus government has made this dishonest act to advance in an undemocratic process.”
Mr. Hasan told the Hindes that the way in which the interim government has banned Awami League was wrong. A group of people gathered in front of Jamuna, the residence of the main advisor, as part of the state -of -the -art drama, and the government banned the Awami League without consulting other stakeholders.
