The day after the government revised the Autorickshaw tariffs in Bengalur, the automobile unions called the “unscientific” hike and demanded to increase the basic fare to 40 GBP.
The new fare structure increases the basic fare from 30 to 36 GBP for the first 2 km. In addition, the PER-KM rate increases from 15 to 18 GBP. The revision of the fare, which announced Bengalur Urban District Administration 14 July, will be discussed from 1 August.
The revision comes after five years, but Auto -AutoThaw drivers are far from happy. The drivers ‘Union Rickshaw’ Union (Ardu) strongly built this step and called it “unilateral, unscientific and proper process”.
TM Rudramurty, Secretary General of Arda, TM Rudramurty said: “We are asking for a fare revision since 2023. The previous representatives of the commissioners at least held consultations with trade unions.
The Union wrote a letter to Mr. Jagadeesh and pointed out what she claims to be procedure. “According to Rule 53 of the rules of motor vehicles Karnataka, the Commissioner is not the chairman of the Regional Transport Office (RTA). Nevertheless, he issued an order unilaterally. This is not acceptable,” he said.
The Union requires a basic fare of 40 GBP for the first 2 km and 20 GBP for each additional km. It also demanded annual fare revisions and claimed that long gaps between revisions were unfair due to rising fuel and vehicle maintenance costs.
“Revisions are not enough every five years. The cost of living is rising every year and AuthorickShaw drivers cannot survive without annual fare modifications,” Mr. Rudramurtha added.
Commuting
Meanwhile, the increase in the fare was also attracted from commuting, who already feel a pinch of rising transport costs. “The government has already increased bus and metro tariffs. Now, with an automobile tariff, it is also unavailable for everyday commuters,” said R. Divya, a private company in Koramangale.
Another commuting Anil Kumar, who regularly travels between Jayanagar and infantry by the road, said: “Automatic tariffs on aggregators are already higher than fixed government rates. Now this hike feels like formality.
Annual review of fare
Transport and urban mobility experts believe that this problem is to increase the fare itself, but in the lack of regular revisions.
MN Sreehari, an expert in MN Sreehar, said: “Regular revision of the fare could help reduce the widespread problem of car drivers who refuse to drive in Bengalur. Many commuting complains about drivers who do not use the meter.
He added that sudden and long -delayed hikes often lead to dissatisfaction on all sides, including drivers, commuting and even aggregators.
Platforms of aggregators that will follow
Platforms of aggregators, including applications such as Ola, Namma Yatri, Rapido and Uber, are expected to update their fare structures in accordance with government revision.
A representative of the front automatic aggregator, which spoke on the condition of anonymity, said: “From 1 August we will increase our basic fares and fees for km according to the new government directive.”
Some automatic aggregators have already begun to display a revised minimum fare 36 ₹. The front aggregator accepted the new fare before its official implementation of August 1.
