The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Saturday, October 18 launched a new feature that allows users to gift an annual FASTag pass to someone through the Rajmargyatra app.
The annual pass was introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on 15 August 2025 for daily commuters in India. However, this license is only valid for private non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans.
How to donate an annual FASTag ticket?
To donate an annual FASTag pass, just click on the ‘Add Pass’ option in the Rajmargyatra app. According to NHAI, the process includes:
- Enter the vehicle number and contact details of the person you wish to donate a FASTag annual pass to.
- One-Time Password (OTP) authentication to confirm the transaction.
- After successful verification, the annual pass will be activated on the recipient’s existing FASTag attached to their vehicle.
- The annual ticket is activated within two hours after payment.
Key features of the annual pass
The FASTag Annual Pass provides a hassle-free and cost-effective travel option for frequent national highway users, eliminating the need for regular FASTag top-ups.
One time fee payment ₹3,000 gives validity for one year or 200 toll crossings, whichever is earlier. Once it crosses any threshold, it automatically reverts to a regular FASTag.
The pass is valid for all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag and can be used at around 1,150 toll plazas across India.
However, it is important for commuters to note that this annual pass is only valid on tolled National Highways (NH) and National Expressway (NE). Additional applicable user charges may apply for using tolls on highways and state highways (SH) managed by various state governments or local bodies.
Fast adoption since launch
Launched two months ago, the FASTag annual pass has seen a surge in popularity. The card has crossed the 25 million user mark and around 5.67 million transactions have been recorded since its launch on August 15, 2025.
The overwhelming response to the annual FASTag pass underscores NHAI’s commitment to provide safe, smooth and hassle-free travel, Mint reported earlier.
