Infosys Foundation Chairperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty has warned against fraudulent AI-generated videos circulating on social media falsely portraying it as endorsing investment schemes. Speaking to X, Murty said she does not offer investment advice and dismissed the claims in the videos as completely fabricated.
In a video message shared online, Murty clarified that the clips – largely circulating on Facebook – were created using artificial intelligence (AI) without her permission. She urged people to only rely on trusted banks and official sources for any financial advice.
The MP said several people she knows have already suffered financial losses after acting on the false assurances contained in these doctored videos.
Fake fake news shows that Murty supports dubious investment schemes, many of which are said to have excessive returns. Some also have links that take users to fake websites that aim to collect personal and sensitive information.
“A lot of people I know have invested and lost money,” she said. “I never talk about financial investments or do anything with money. I talk about work, I talk about the culture of India, I talk about women and education,” she added.
“Don’t base your financial decisions on these scam videos. Please verify the facts through official channels and report any scam content you see. Stay alert and stay safe. Jai Hind,” Murty warned.
Murty was a repeated target of such deeply bogus hoaxes. Just last month, a similar doctored video of her went viral, showing her allegedly encouraging viewers to click on links advertising “investment opportunities.” These scams use advanced artificial intelligence techniques, including voice cloning and face manipulation, to impersonate and lure victims with promises of unrealistic returns on investment.
