In the early hours of Tuesday, thieves opened an ATM on Cuddalore – Chittoor Road (NH 38) at Mulluvadi village in Ranipet. They also recovered over ₹7,000 in cash after removing the chest using a gas cutter.

Police said the kiosk is located on the outskirts of the village near an educational institute. The store remained closed and people could not withdraw cash that night. There were no security personnel in the store either.

Noticing that there were no withdrawals at the ATM, the bank officials reached the exit and found its shutter closed from the outside. Upon gaining access, they found the ATM had been vandalized and cash stolen.

Based on the complaint of the bank officials, the Kalavai police registered a case. Special teams have been formed to nab the suspects. Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were roped in to pick up clues at the crime scene. Police inspector P. Sibin inspected the place together with a team of police personnel. Police said cyber teams are also analyzing CCTV footage of the route. A probe is underway.

In February 2023, thieves opened four bank ATMs on Cuddalore – Chittoor Road (NH 38) in Tiruvannamalai district and after setting the machines on fire, made off with over 72.50 lakhs in cash.
