Atheist Society of India National Coordinator J. Ravi and its Vizianagaram District General Secretary Bankuru Joginaidu on Sunday urged the Andhra Pradesh government to come up with an anti-superstition law to curb the practices of black magic, witchcraft and others that lead to human sacrifice and other problems in various parts of the state.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Mr. Ravi said states like Maharashtra, Karnataka and Assam have already introduced such laws to curb superstitions and prevent inhuman evil practices.
Mr. Ravi alleged that many practitioners of black magic exploit gullible people by creating fear and anxiety by saying that their perceived enemies are trying to destroy them physically and financially.
Vizianagaram General Secretary Mr. Joginaidu urged the police department to identify black magic practitioners and punish them as per existing laws. He also asked the government to come up with specific legislation to address the issue.
Earlier, association leaders J. Suneetha, SP Ramakrishna Prasad, P. Shanmukha Rao, B. Srinivas and others discussed the activities of the association. They urged the government not to celebrate Sathya Sai Baba festivals with state honors as it would be against the Indian constitution.
