At least three people were killed in an explosion and shooting at the headquarters of a paramilitary force in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Monday, November 24.
Police told Reuters that gunmen attacked the paramilitary headquarters in Peshawar on Monday, while many on social media claimed to have heard two explosions in the northwestern Pakistani city.
The compound, the headquarters of the border police paramilitary force, was also hit by two suicide bombers, sources said.
They said three people were killed in the incident.
“The first suicide bomber attacked the main entrance of the police station and the second broke into the compound,” a senior official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
“Law enforcement personnel, including the army and police, have cordoned off the area and are handling the situation carefully as we suspect there are some terrorists inside the headquarters,” the official added.
The force headquarters is located in a congested area, near a military cantonment.
“The road was closed to traffic and cordoned off by the army, police and (security) personnel,” Safdar Khan, a resident of the area, told Reuters.
Initial reports say there was an explosion at the main gate of the FC headquarters, followed by heavy gunfire. After the blast, intense gunfire is still heard in the area.
A video of the Peshawar attack has surfaced
Two unverified videos have surfaced on social media. One showed two armed men pointing guns and shouting, while the other showed destruction. Mint could not independently verify the video shared below.
Meanwhile, a person claiming to be a journalist also shared several videos of the incident.
He said, “Three Khawarij terrorists were killed while trying to enter the gate, FC sources confirmed. Two FC members were martyred and four others were injured. Clearing operations are underway inside the headquarters.”
He claimed that heavy firing continued in the area. “The main Peshawar road saddar has been closed to the public,” he said.
