A Reddit post is going viral after a 26-year-old user claimed to be earning more than double his corporate salary after running an Airbnb homestay in Rajasthan. Recounting the initial challenges he faced after leaving his stable 9-to-5 job, he said he now earns ₹2.18 million per month from Airbnb, which is more than his earlier salary ₹1.3 million.
The caption for the post said, “My monthly income exceeded my old salary after leaving the 9-5.” Despite initial fears and insecurities, he stressed the importance of patience and learning in achieving financial success, writing: “No big plan, just wanted to build something of my own and travel more. The first few months were full of doubts and uneven income, frankly, very scary at times.”

Declaring how he overcame the obstacles, he wrote: “I made money this month ₹2.18L from Airbnb alone and exceeded my total monthly income ₹2.5L+ which is now more than what I was making at my corporate job ( ₹1.3 l/month).
Describing the drastic transition from a corporate job to running an Airbnb homestay, he said it wasn’t an overnight success, “it took saving, patiently, slowly for months and learning everything the hard way”.
At the end of the post he wrote: “Making the post a milestone because a year ago I was scared and insecure and reading posts like this helped me believe it was possible.”

In the comments thread, many users suggested that the Redditor was using generational wealth, but he denied all these allegations, saying: “He took out a loan and used his own savings to set things up. He built it slowly, one step at a time.”
In one of the answers he wrote: “I was in a corporation for almost 6 years, saving and then borrowing everything.”
Many users expressed skepticism at his claims, saying: “You’re 26 now, you left your job last year, so at 25. You’ve been doing the job for almost 6 years and earning 1.3l/m, that means you probably started at 19. Pretty impressive!”

Hinting that his income stream fluctuates and the seasonal nature of the work, he said: “This month was unusually good because my 3BHK did really well, Diwali week was fully booked so the numbers look higher than a normal month. It’s not like that every month, there are also slow periods. Hosting income fluctuates a lot.”
Another user commented: “That’s a great milestone. It really shows what patience and consistent effort can do. Hosting isn’t easy either. Managing guests, maintenance and slow months all take work. Wonder how long it took for things to become a steady income?”
