PM Modi, Amit Shah often visit TN but don’t provide funds we ask for, says Deputy CM Udhayanidhi
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s “frequent” visits to the state, saying they are denying funds requested by the state government.
The two leaders have not given any big projects for the state, he claimed and appealed to the people to “drive out” the BJP from Tamil Nadu.
Addressing an election rally in Harur Assembly constituency, where DMK’s A Shanmugam is contesting, Mr. Udhayanidhi said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah often visit Tamil Nadu but they do not provide any projects or funds that we are asking for. BJP should be kicked out of Tamil Nadu,” he said.
Although the DMK-led alliance lost the Harura seat (to the AIADMK) during the 2021 elections, the party did not ignore development in the constituency and provided Rs 400 crore worth of road infrastructure projects, new buildings in government hospitals, laid roads in hilly areas, built a temple town and established a Rs 6 crore worth ITI in the constituency, Mr. Udayanidhi said.
“Last time we lost the Harur seat. We should not make the same mistake again. This time we have to secure a big victory. So send Shanmugam to the assembly to develop more in the constituency,” said the DMK youth wing leader.
Emphasizing that development is DMK’s priority, he said that to continue the good social programs of the DMK government, Chief Minister MK Stalin should get a second term and DMK should come to power for the seventh time in the state.
“Tamil Nadu is at the forefront of development and is achieving double digit economic growth under Stalin who is driving the growth even though the Center is not supporting us. Is he (Centre) giving the funds we ask for or the projects we ask for? But our CM is doing what is needed for the people,” Mr. Udhayanidhi said. — PTI
