Exuding confidence that the Congress party will secure a second consecutive term in Telangana, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the next assembly elections are likely to be held in May or June 2029, instead of December 2028, due to the proposed delimitation exercise.
Addressing a massive meeting called ‘Rythu Ashirvada Sabha’ at Jagannadhapuram in Khammam district on Friday (July 10), Mr Reddy said Telangana constituencies are likely to increase from 119 to 182 and Lok Sabha seats in the state from 17 to 26 after delimitation.
He predicted that the Congress would win 117 assembly seats in the next elections and form the government for the second term. Further, the party would also win 20 of the 26 Lok Sabha seats expected after delimitation and expressed confidence that Rahul Gandhi would become the next prime minister.
He accused the BJP-led government at the Center of pushing the delimitation bill “by hook or by crook” and alleged that the BJP leadership orchestrated splits in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to facilitate the passage of the bill in Parliament.
Recalling his prediction at a public meeting of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Khammam in July 2023, Mr. Reddy said the Congress went on a winning spree in the 2023 Assembly elections while the BRS suffered successive electoral defeats.
With an emotional expression, Mr. Reddy took the oath in the name of ‘Bhadrachala Sri Rama’ to work 18 hours a day, along with his cabinet colleagues and Congress members to strengthen the ‘Praja Palana’.
He lashed out at BRS, accusing it of spreading disinformation driven by political frustration. He alleged that the BRS was facing internal squabbles and claimed that there were reports of attempts to merge the BRS with the BJP.
Mr Reddy said the BRS, which was rejected by voters in the ensuing assembly and assembly elections after what he described as a decade of misrule that left Telangana with a debt burden of over ₹800 crore, would face political demise.
He said the Congress government’s flagship programs were aimed at making agriculture profitable and improving farmers’ income, reflecting its inclusive and farmer-centric welfare programme.
