Caught in a wave of unrest after the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the Central University of AssamSonitpur district restarted for the new academic session without controversy.
Garg died while swimming in the sea off an island in Singapore on 19 September 2025. His death, rather the alleged disrespect shown to the singer-songwriter by Vice-Chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh, led to riots at Tezpur University, about 180 km northeast of Guwahati.
